The Beatles - The Band That Changed The World Of Music Forever

The Beatles were a British Rock Band formed in the year 1960 in Liverpool by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and later joined by Ringo Starr by replacing drummer Pete Best in 1962. They are considered as the most successful act of the 20th century and the best selling music artist of all time with approximated sales of 600 million units. The Beatles were the inspiration to millions of artists who came after them for example - Nirvana, The Beach Boys, Billy Joel, Oasis etc. 



The Rise of The Beatles, Beatlemania 

The Beatles released their first album “Please Please Me” in 1962. They also released several record-breaking albums the next two years. As a result, they became quite famous in the UK as a result sparked the beginning of Beatlemania. Beatlemania was the extreme obsession for the band, as manifested in the frantic, wild and energetic behavior of their fans in the 1960s. The band's popularity skyrocketed around the world after their live performance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. The show was viewed by almost 74 million people. After that, the band used to travel around in armored cars to protect them from the frenzied fans. The band also spent weeks in the studio as a way of escaping from the chaos of Beatlemania.




The Cultural Impact of The Beatles

The Beatles continued making music until the band disbanded in 1970. Still, their impact cannot be waved away. The band helped lead the youth culture's attack on the mainstream through their rock music, which permanently changed out culture. Although the dream they helped create could not sustain itself, this was more a reflection of our false hopes than their promises. The Beatles were known for being smart, playful, irreverent and eclectic, and they successfully broke through to a worldwide audience, popularizing the Northern English accent and using humor to mock social expectations. They also rocked a mid-length hairstyle known as "Mop-Top" that became a craze and experimented with different sounds in the recording studio, using multiple tracks and tape speeds to create special effects. The album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" is widely regarded as the most experimental and greatest album ever made which also revolutionized recording processes in the studio.





The Social Movements Caused By The Beatles

Social Movements, Politics, War that happened in the 1960s most of the time became the main theme of the band's music. They talked about it in their song. They became a principal figure of the youth culture by reflecting that decade's social developments through their artistic maturation. Their songs, such as "Paperback Writer", "Rain", "Eleanor Rigby" talked about social observation, with "Taxman" protesting against the sky-scraping level of tax imposed in England by the then Prime Minister Harold Wilson. The band also protested against the racial segregation and showed support to African-American Musicians. The Beatles invited Mary Wells to be their support act on a UK tour as well as arranged Esther Phillips to give her first performances outside the US. Also, Paul McCartney wrote the song "Blackbird" talking about a black woman going through the racial tension in the Southern United States. Therefore, The Beatles played an important role in social movements which were raging on in the 1960s through their music.


In conclusion, The Beatles remains the most greatest notorious group in the history of music industry. They never reunited after their break-up in the year 1970, the principal four members went on being a successful solo artist until John Lennon was murdered in 1980 and George Harrison died of Lung Caner in 2001. Even though they did all of that in just seven years, their impact and their unforgettable contribution towards the music industry, society, art, literature remained forever. Till this day, The Beatles remained in the hearts of millions of song lovers. That's why Beatles 4 Ever.
